The first thing that needs to happen is the dog has to know his name. Say the dogs name - when he looks at you, acknowledges what was spoken - quickly give a small treat. This attention getter will prove priceless in future training. This should be done at random times in different situations so that the dog knows when ever his name is spoken he should look at the owner. This may seem like a small point to make, but everything else is built on it.
